intro:
The novel “and then there were none” was written by Agatha Christie in 1939. In this essay i will be talking about how justice is shown through different characters in the novel.
Justice Wargrave: talk about his name, and his weird obsession with justice and death
Justice Wargrave explores the idea of justice is foreshadowed in his name and in his actions that take place on the island, the murders that he commits. Justice Wargrave is a judge, and is commonly known as the hanging judge as those criminals that he finds guilty of their crimes he sentences them to death by hanging. Mr Wargrave also go’s to watch each hanging. Justice Wargrave had an obsession with justice and uses death as his way of justice. Mr Wargrave picks his victims from crimes that can’t be proved guilty by the court. Because Justice Wargrave commits the murders the justice is that in the end he kills himself as the punishment for the murders that he does out of his idea of justice. I believe that to idea of justice explored through the character Justice Wargrave is very brave and ambitious. The type of justice that is shown through Mr Wargrave is that all crimes found guilty should be punished by death as they are evil to the world.
Hi Amy,
At the moment you are merely describing the character of Justice Wargrave. Remember that the question is all about connecting the character to how they explore the theme of justice. Do not focus on superficial connections, such as the character’s name and profession, there is a lot more to the connections. This is especially true if you are going to focus entirely on a single character.
